Pod Fodder (Volume Two Hundred And Seventeen)

1. Girl 1 and The Grease Guns - Bring On The Dancing Horsemeat (Squirrel)
This is the b-side of the fantastic new Girl 1 and The Grease Guns seven inch single which is quite simply stunning and if you don't own one by the end of the week you will probably need to seek urgent medical attention as your ears will not be able to continue on their journey through life without this ringing in them. I managed to go a whole hour without listening to "Jessica 6" (which is the a-side) yesterday but had to give up  when I started attempring to remove my own fingernails with the lid from a bic biro. So to put it another way,  "Jessica 6" may well be the best pop song you'll hear this year.

2. A Grave With No Name - Dig Me Out (Lefse)
A Few weeks ago we featured a track from A Grave With No Names new album "Whirlpool" which will be released through Lefse on 16th July. I'm pleased to say that I can now give you another. I can't wait to hear the full album! The band are about to embark on a tour which seems to mysteriously miss out Scotland!

3. Sherwood and Pinch - Weed (Psychosis Mix) (On-U-Sound)
Adrian Sherwood is back with a new record and this time he's brought his mate Pinch with him. This is described as the "debut" single from Sherwood and Pinch although both of them have been making records for what seems like forever. I'm led to believe there is an album in the pipeline as well so if that is true there should be further treats in store before we grow too much older.

Pure // Apart cover art

4. Tyrannosaurus Dead - Matthew (Odd Box)
This is a track from the superb new E.P. from Tyrannosaurus Dead. It will be in the shops from 1st July on good old fashioned 12" vinyl although there is of course the now obligatory digital download for those strange people who don't own a turntable and I am led to believe there are quite a lot of people like that. The E.P. is called ""Pure//Apart" and contains six tracks, all of which are quite superb and for further proof you need to visit the Odd Box Records Bandcamp page where you can stream the whole thing.

Sounds Mean cover art

5. Kill The Captains - Disco Nazi (Armellodie)
Well it looks like we have another great new band from Sheffield! Their debut album "Sounds Mean" will be released on 12th August and is sure to cause a bit of a stir.

Pity Sex - Dark World 12"EP - Click Image to Close

6. Pity Sex - Honey Pot (Run For Cover)
Taken from their fantastic debut  album "Feast Of Love". Judging by the tiur dates below Pity Sex aren't all that keen on days.

Rubber Tracks Demos cover art

8. Beasty - Bloodsucking (Demo)
I know I promised another Beasty track weeks ago but you know how it is when you don't have a memory. Anyway, better late than never as they say. This is another one of those excellent demo's recorded live at Rubber Tracks. Truly superb!

9. Cough Cool - Knew It Was (Bathetic)
Taken from the Philly band's second album "29" which can be purchased from the Bathetic website.

Fuck Buttons : Slow Focus

10. Fuck Buttons - Sentients (ATP)
It's been a long while but finally we have a new record from Fuck Buttons. The Bristol duo will finally release their third album "Slow Focus" by ATP on 22nd July. It pretty much carries on where their last offering "Tarot Sport" left off although it does seem to be a slightly darker record. "Slow Focus" features seven new tracks each one almost guaranteed to annoy the grandparents.

11. Boys Noize - Excuse Me (Boys Noize)
Possibly the most played record in my house this week is the new E.P. by Boys Noize. I think you can probably guess all you need to know about the record from the sleeve. It does sound fantastic at ear splitting volume, plus you get a chance to speak to your neighbours when they pop round to complain.

12. Acquaintances - Skin (Epitonic/File13)
This is the first track I've heard from Acquaintances and it's pretty damn fine. It comes from their self-titled debut album which which will be released on 6th August and I will look forward to hearing the whole thing.

Pod Fodder (Volume Two Hundred And Sixteen)

Download Zip File

Boney cover art

1. The Elizabeths - Boney (Self Released)
This is the first track I've heard from the London band and am greatly looking forward to more.

2. Run Dust - Zipper Fun (Tesla Tapes)
"Run Dust aka Ronald Doussier is a new project coming straight from the lowlands of Northern Germany. The music is pure hammer with beguiling vocals direct, devilish and disgusting. Harkens back to Cab Voltaire's more violent output, but Dust throws his own pisstake on it. Like a hard German funk-krautbox with a very short late 80s Glenn Danzig spitting hell through a buttcrusher. Treble, not bass.We saw this guy doing this stuff live and it hurt like a kick in the balls and If anything this tape will be the soundtrack to the up & coming ' summer of discontent '. Over 20 minutes of energy rush. 50 Cassettes with free download code. for orders/info."

Chatham Rise cover art

3. Chatham Rise - Oncoming Daze (Picture In My Ear)
Very nice indeed. The guitar on this track reminds me of some of Galaxie 500's finest moments. It comes from the debut album from Chatham Rise which is available on vinyl (or CD if your a philistine) from the Picture In My Ear Records Bandcamp page. They term it as "classic black vinyl" which is fine as black is becoming the new coloured as almost everyone seems to be putting their records out on whatever colour takes their fancy these days.

Journey to the Center EP cover art

4. Glaze Of Cathexis - Pagodas Of Wilderness (Self Released)
This is a track from the new Glaze Of Cathexis e.p. which can be downloaded in full here.

5. Afflicted Man - For The Few I Please (Permanent)
"I'm Off Me 'Ead" was the second album from Afflicted Man. Originally released back in 1981 but now re-issued on vinyl by Permanent Records. The first run will consist of 500 copies of which 100 will be on red vinyl but you will have to find your way to a Permanent Records store to purchase one of those.

6. Ancient Methods - Kings And Pawns (Ancient Methods)
This track is one of four on a fantastic release from Ancient Methods which is the name of both artist and label. It's called the Seventh Seal E.P. and comes on the most beautiful green vinyl your eyes could ever hope to see. I think there is a clear vinyl version as well and if that's the case then it would not be unthinkable to buy this twice. The music, as you will realise when you hear this track is quite simply and spectacularly evil. In fact it's just the sort of thing Nine Inch Nails should be doing. I got their new record earlier in the week and it sounds quite frankly tame and a little bit boring.

7. The Pooh Sticks - Time To Time (Fright)
It's always good to hear this again. It's one of many great moments on The Pooh Sticks 1990 album "Formula One Generation" album which really captured the Welsh band at the peak of their powers.

Tendency to Fall (single) cover art

8. Adolf Plays The Jazz - Tendency To Fall (Self Released)
The new free digital single from Adolf Plays The Jazz. Despite being over seven minutes long it is described as a radio edit. If that's the case I'd love to hear the full version.

9. Sonny and the Sunsets - Earth Girl Seeks Friend/Lover (Polyvinyl)
Taken from the album "Antenna To The Afterworld" which was released this week on Polyvinyl. There is a limited edition of 500 on purple vinyl which can be ordered from the Polyvinyl website. This is, in my opinion the best Sonny Smith record yet. And while I'm on the subject of Smith's...

10. The Fall - Loadstones (Cherry Red)
One of the many highlights on the new Fall album "Re-Mit" which I'm sure you all have by now. Every year I seem to say something like "this is the best Fall album for years" and once again that familiar phrase has been uttered but I genuinely mean it. The Fall have changed over and over again through the years and although there have been the odd slightly ropy albums on the whole they have been pretty consistently spectacular and this bears testament to Mr Smiths seemingly endless enthusiasm for producing something new every year. "Re-Mit" is great, roll on next year!

11. Sixfingerz - Rhode Island (Cold Busted)
This is a track from the forthcoming Sixfingerz album "Music Beyond Belief" which will be released on Cold Busted on 27th August.

12. Girls Names - Chelsea Clementine (Self Released)
At just over a minute this is one of the longer tracks on the new Girls Names E.P. "Hypo Manic" which you can download in full here.

The return of... Fuck Buttons

It's been a while but all good things come to those who wait apparently. Fuck Buttons are finally back with their third album "Slow Focus" which will be released through ATP at the end of July.

The track below is the first single to be taken from the album. It's an edited version of The Red Wing which is available now as both a digital download or limited edition 12" gold vinyl of which there are 1000 copies.

Pod Fodder (Volume Two Hundred And Fifteen)

Whatever We Plan cover art

1. Ferns - Impulsive (Self Released)
Taken from the album "Whatever We Plan"

2. Camera Obscura - Troublemaker (4AD)
I was delighted to get a copy of the new album from Camera Obscura the other week. This bunch of Scots have been around quite a long time now. If memory serves I first heard them back in 1997 on a seven inch single, the title of which escapes my befuddled mind at the moment but I might remember to try and find it later. Anyway after what must be sixteen years and several terrific albums later they have returned (as seems to be the fashion in 2013) with a new box of magic. It's called Desire Lines and is their second album release for the legendary 4AD label. Nothing much seems to change in Obscura land, as previously it's full of annoyingly catchy pop tunes sang by one of the best Scotish female voices of... well ages. It's just occurred to me that I've never seen them live. Hopefully that is something else I can put right this year.

3. Zeitgeber - Body Out (Stroboscopic Artifacts)
This is a track from a new 12" on Stroboscopic Artifacts by Zeitgeber aka Lucy and Speedy J.

4. Stone Titan - I Wish I Was Fucking Dead (Safety Meeting)
Firstly what a great song title. It's not the only one either, other titles include Alaskan Thunderfuck, A Brief History Of Overweight Men and Groovy Warhead Commander. You will decipher from this that we are not talking about the most peaceful of bands here but this noise is terrific. I couldn't easily decide which track to share with you so I went for the first one on the album which is called "Scratch and Sniff" and is pretty destructive. It reminded me in many ways of the first time I heard Mudhoney many years ago. The only useful advice I can give you is to listen to this a loudly as your device will go and if you burst an eardrum it will have been worth it.

Waste Away

5. Dead Stars - Waste Away (Uninhabited Mansions)
This is a track from the Brooklyn bands debut E.P. "High Gain" which was released last week on Uminhabited Mansions.

6. JFM - Felix (Blood and Water Inc.)
I have very little info on this album, in fact I have none beyond it contains fourteen tracks and is called JFM. Sounds great though.

Topshop EP cover art

7. Teardrop Society - Vanity Unfair (Faux Disx)
This is the first insallment in Faux Disx Montone series of seven inch singles. It's a four track E.P. by Teardrop Factory entitled the Topshop E.P and  limited to just 300 copies which can be ordered here.

the Altered Hours - Sweet Jelly Roll

8. The Altered Hours - Everyone Is Inside (A Records)
Taken from the new E.P. "Sweet Jelly Roll" which contains three tracks of which this is the one I keep coming back to.

15 Sounds Of Earth cover art

9. Torpa - Static (The Sounds Of Earth) (Self Released)
Another great new Torpa track from another great new Torpa E.P. You can download it in full along with the now quite extensive Torpa back catalogue here.

10. Flowers - Watch And Wonder (Self Released)
I included a track from this fine E.P. a couple of weeks ago and here's another. Originally issued as a seven inch on Cloudberry Records which has now completely sold out Flowers have very considerately released the tracks as a free digital E.P. for everyone to enjoy.

Let's Get Lost

11. Summer Of Blood - Let's Get Lost (Self Released)
This is a track which the Sheffield band have this week made available free from their Soundcloud page.

12. Ex Wife - While The Sun Is Out (Evil Weevil)
Taken from the album "New Colors" which can be heard (and purchased if you so wish) here. This is the track which ends the album and I can think of no finer way to end this Fodder.

Xiu Xiu/Lawrence English

LAMC # 8 cover art
This is the new split single from Xiu Xiu and Lawrence English. You can download the digital version from their Bandcmp page for a price of your choosing but there is also a seven inch version for sale which appears to be either black or grey and can also be ordered from the said Bandcamp page. If you download the digital version it might be nice if you made a small contribution as...
100% of the digital proceeds going to the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund at VH1 Save the Music - a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in America's public schools."

Pod Fodder (Volume Two Hundred And Fourteen)

Skopsi cover art

1. Fluffer - Hoopty (Self Released)
We start this weeks Fodder with a track from the debut album by Bloomington based outfit Fluffer. It's called "Skopsi" and as you will hear is not the quietest of records. If you want to hear more then you should proceed to their Bandcamp page where you van download the full album.

2. Boards Of Canada - Reach For The Dead (Warp)
At last a new track from Boards Of Canada, well it has been a while. This track is the first offering from their new album "Tomorrows Harvest " which will be released on 10th June on Warp Records and I'm counting the days until I get to hear it.

Are. Were. Always Will Be. cover art

3. Pretty - Curfew (Self Released)
This is the first track on a tremendous E.P. which you can download in full here.

Bummerang cover art

4. M. Roosevelt - National Anthem Of The World (Self Released)
I really should have included this track a couple of weeks ago but the truth of the matter is I forgot. Still, better late than never as they say. It's the first track on a fine album called "Bummerang" which you can download here.

5. TWR72 - Merijn (Twin Turbo)
Another winner from the Twin Turbo label. The artist appears to be TWR72 which sounds very much like a catalogue number but isn't. The number on this one os 018 in case you're interested. The E.P. contains six tracks and celebrates under the title "Der Ausgang".

6. Borzoi - Sexy Leper (Self Released)
Borzoi come from Austin, Texas and make a great noise. Check this track out, it's their debut single and with any look will be the first of many.

Burning House EP cover art

7. Burning House - Mirror Song (Self Released)
This is the second track on the Southampton bands debut E.P. which can be downloaded in full here.

A Shaman Lik My Pea cover art

8. Warp Technique - Nowhere Dub [Mistrust Remix] (Self Released)
Taken from the superbly titled album "A Shaman Lik My Pea". You can download the whole shebang for a fiver here.

9. Titles - Stone Boat (Safety Meeting)
Taken from Titles wonderful new record "Modern Sounds In Science Fiction" which is available on gorgeous vinyl from Safety Meeting Records.

10. The Capsules - Our Apocalypse (Vespera)
I don't usually go for the slower tracks on a record but the vocal from Julies Sheilds is just stunning. It actually reminds me of another band I used to love called The Charlottes but that's going back about twenty years. I think I've featured a track from this before but only now is Northern Lights and Southern Skies getting a UK release on 8th July so it's well worth another listen.

11. Rrose - Waterfall [Birth] (EAUX)
This is a track from the "Waterfall Variations" E.P. which should be in the shops about now!

Where This Mad Must Break cover art

12. LoOmis - Young Harmony (Self Released)
This is a track from the new bizarrely titled LoOmis album "Where This Mad Must Break". It's yet another great album which you can download for a price of your own choosing from Bandcamp. There seems to be an incredible amount of quality music coming through Bandcamp at the moment and I hope it will continue ad infinitum!

More Tales From The Orbservatory

13. The Orb featuring Lee Scratch Perry - Fussball (Cooking Vinyl)
Taken from the album "More Tales From The Observatory" which once again sees Dr Alex and co. team up with the legend that is Lee Scratch Perry. You will undoubtedly remember last years collaboration which resulted in the album "The Observer In The Star House" gaining mixed reviews although I for one thought it was pretty damn fine. This record features effectively six tracks each side with one half featuring Mr Perry and the other being instrumental versions, so just The Orb then which should please some more traditional Orb fans. I asked Mr Ripley (he of the enchanted book) about last years album and he found Mr Perry's voice more than a bit annoying but then I suppose most of the more extreme voices are probably going to irritate more people than they please. Just the way of the world I suppose.
