Pod Fodder (Volume Sixty Four)

1. Weed Hounds - Embrace (More Or Less) (Demo)
This is one of the best demo's I've heard in ages. Apparently the cassette versions of this demo have now sold out but if you check out their myspace you can still buy a cd-r version. The band will soon be released a split 7" with Dude Japan which I quite fancy getting hold of a copy of but they can't export beyond North America. If you live anywhere else you have to order your copy through Strictly No Capital Letters, unfortunately I can't find hide nor hare of it on their site at the moment.

2. Boy Genius - Weight Of The World (TRB)
This is a track from the new E.P by Preston's, Boy Genius (not to be confused with the Brooklyn band of the same name). The E.P. is called "Weight Of The World" and I'm not entirely sure how you would go about securing a copy. The best thing to do is pop across to their myspace pagewhere you will be able to furnish yourself with the relevant information.

In a cloud_cover3. The Sandwitches - Grey Wizard (Secret Seven)
This is taken from a compilation of new and unreleased material byvarious San Francisco bands. It's called "In A Cloud - New Sounds From San Francisco" and will be released on 2nd March through Secret Seven Records.

4. Whirl - Leave (Demo)

5. Oreaganomics - Create Something To Love (Self Released)
What a sound. This track has been hanging around in my inbox for a couple of weeks now and I feel thoroughly ashamed. It's brilliant and it comes from an album called "Atlas Drugged" which can be enjoyed in full HERE. I can guarantee you won't have heard the last of these even if it does mean I have to type that bloody name again.

Product Details6. The Strange Boys - Friday In Paris (Rough Trade)
The Strange Boys are back with a new album. It's called "Be Brave" and will be released through Rough Trade on 22nd February. This of course is the follow up to last years excellent "The Strange Boys & Girls Club" which I think is about to get a Japanese release. The new record is more of the same really. I think the thing which draws me into this band is Ryan Sambol's unhinged vocal style. He always sounds like he has recently gone to bed after a rather heavy night only for someone to stick a microphone on front of him and shout "sing you bastard".

Product Details 7. Babe Rainbow - Tummy Sticks (Warp)
Another winner from the Warp stable. This is a track from the debut release by Babe Rainbow. It's called the "Shaved E.P." and was released on vinyl and download formats on 8th February.

8. Archangel - Loud And Clear (King L Remix) (Self Released)
This is probably my favourite mix of the new Archangel single which will be available from 22nd February. "Loud And Clear" is the first taste of Archangel's debut album "How To Lose Your Best Friend" which will appear later in the year.

9. Shonen Knife - Rock n' Roll Cake (P-Vine)
Shonen Knife are back with a new album. "Free Time" was released in Japan last month, I'm not sure if there is going to be a British release but what with the internet and all that it doesn't really matter. The important thing is that remarkably they still manage to sound as fresh as they did back in 1991. There are four or five tracks on "Free Time" which are as catchy as a velcro bike seat. There will almost certainly be more tracks from this album ion future Fodder's.

10. Palette All Stars - Action Section (Palette)
I'm always dubious about any album entitled something like "Nothing But Love Songs" because nine times out of ten they carry the usual regurgitated crap you hear on commercial radio. Now and again though this general rule is breached and behind the title lies a good record. This is a casing point. This track is taken from a new Palette Records compilation unfortunately titled "Nothing But Love Songs". I only have a two track sampler so I can't vouch for the other ten but I think you can trust anything released on John Tejada's label.

The Fall - Berlin, 12th February 2010

If you, like me are getting a bit impatient waiting for the new Fall album this should take your mind off things for a while. It has to be said that this is one of the best Fall recordings I've ever heard and some credit must go to Hanno the taper who has done a first rate job but what a performance from the band. You can almost feel the energy seeping through you headphones (if indeed you choose to wear such things). Most of the set is made up of songs which will be on the forthcoming album, should it ever see the light of day and once again Cowboy George is simply immense. Hopefully Smith and the gang will tour again later in the year and if they can maintain this kind of form it's gonna be the best in years!

Our Future Your Clutter
Sloppy Floor
Funnel Of Love
Over! Over!
I'm Not From Bury
Chino Splashback
Hot Cake
Cowboy George
Psykick Dancehall
White Lightning

Camera Obscura - Japan 2010

A superb performance in front of a rather lively crowd at Shindaita Fever on 29th January 2010. Probably the best Camera Obscura bootleg I've ever heard and credit must go to the taper for doing such a remarkable job. Camera Obscura have been around for the best part of thirteen years yet this was their first trip to Japan. I suppose it is the other side of the world and you can't just jump on a number six but they certainly seem to have gone down very well. 2009 was a brilliant year for the Scottish band with their "My Maudlin Career" album finally putting the band on a higher footing and therefore expanding their fanbase. I hope they can keep up the good work with another new record in 2010 but I doubt it will happen, after all it's taken them over a decade to produce four albums. Still I suppose it's quality not quantity.

Pod Fodder (Volume Sixty Three)

1. The Century - Heartbreak (
Keepreal Creative Label)
This is a track from the latest Keepreal compilation "Keepreal vol 2" which can be downloaded in full here.

2. Sleep In - Skin (Enemies List)
Taken from the album "Pyramid" which is the work of an Australian bloke called Hamish Duncan who says, This is my new album, and it’s called Pyramid. Recorded in a bedroom with a microphone, two guitars and Ableton Live between June and August 2009. Vocals are present, as are samples, and it will probably remind you of artists such as Atlas Sound. It is probably the best work I can do at this point in time, and I’m pretty proud of it, so thank you for checking it out. I hope you like it."

3. Chariots Of Tuna - A New Beginning (Tweefort)
Chariots Of Tuna are a quartet from New York. This track is taken from the bands current single "I'm So Good At Shining" the other tracks from which can be downloaded for free from theTweefort Records website.

4. Apteka - Cicada Song (Self Released)
This track is taken from the current Apteka tour E.P. which is quite simply brilliant and it's well worth going to see them just to buy one of these. Apparently there is a new 10" E.P. in the pipeline and the bands debut album to look forward to later in the year. Apteka will be appearing at SXSW but then again you could say that about anyone really.

5. The Electric Pop Group - Out Of Sight (Matinee)
Another track from the best album of the year thus far. "Seconds" is easily as good as last years classic debut from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart but you can bet your fingernails that it won't get half as much coverage which is a great shame. I really would like to see this lot come over to our shores for a few dates this year.

Product Details 6. A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Nitetime Rainbows (Mis Ojos Discos)
A Sunny Day In Glasgow return on 2nd March with a new E.P. "Nitetime Rainbows" the title track on which is remixed from last years impressive "Ashes Grammer" album. It will be released on two formats. You could purchase the digital download if you were so inclined but the sensible money will be spent on the clear vinyl 12" which will be limited to 1000 copies. You get four tracks on the a-side (Nitetime Rainbows, Daytime Rainbows, So Bloody So Tight, Piano Lessons) and on the b-side there are three different mixes of the title track. And all for $12 from the Mis Ojos Discos shop.

7. Errors - Bridge Or Cloud (The Twilight Sad Remix) (MP3)

8. Harlem - Friendly Ghost (Matador)
Another track from the new album "Hippies" which will be released through Matador on 6th April.

9. Hot Club De Paris - Extra Time Then Sudden Death (May 68 Remix)

Product Details 10. Eluvium - Cease To Know (Temporary Residence)
This track is the last track on the current Eluvium album which will be released through Temporary Residence on 23rd February.
