Another week, another brilliant record. It seems at the moment there is at least one record a week that makes the world a much nicer place to be. This week the record in question is the debut album by Columbus, Ohio's Times New Viking. Sixteen tracks of guitar spanking goodness. If I were a doctor I would prescribe you a full dose twice daily for your general well being. I think it's pretty certain that they will be next weeks featured artist.
This weeks featured artist however is the superb Eats Tapes who's debut album "Dos Mutantes" I somehow managed to miss last year. There seems to be quite a lot of quality experimental electronic artists coming through now which is very good to see from a scene which in my opinion has stagnated somewhat over recent years. I got an album just yesterday by an artist who celebrates under the name of Clark whose album "Turning Dragon" will be released imminently through Warp Records and reminds me in no small measure of Jeff Mills at his best. There will certainly be a track from that in next weeks program.
The Burning World computer was returned last week all repaired and lovely so the e-mail address has now changed back to if you should like to get in touch, and why would you not?? Talking of which I'm a little dissapointed that my plea for unsigned bands to submit tracks for the featured artist slot has not produced any fruit. I just thought it was quite a good idea for quality unsigned bands to show their wares in these programs and possibly find a way into peoples hearts. If any bands are interested in this just drop me a line at for the postal address if you want to send cd's of you can simply attatch mp3's to your e-mail. Simple...
On with the tunes..............................................

1. Envelopes - Party (Brille) This seems like the perfect way to start a playlist. Personally I think this second Envelopes album is much better than the first one which itself was pretty good. It’s called “Here Comes The Wind” and is released on 28th January. Buy Here
2. Xiu Xiu - No Friend Oh! (Kill Rock Stars) Taken from the new album “Women As Lovers”. Out 28th January.
3. Eats Tapes - Face Shredder (Tigerbeat 6) First track from this weeks featured artist. The album “Dos Mutantes” was actually released almost a year ago but I only got a copy the other week. Buy Here
4. Sons And Daughters - Rebel With The Ghost (Domino) Taken from the new album "This Gift". Out 28th January. Buy Here
5. The Envy Corps - Rhinemaiden (Mercury) Taken from the forthcoming album "Dwell". Out 7th April. Buy Here
6. Why - Good Friday (Anticon) Taken from the album "Alopecia". Out 11th March, Buy Here
7. Small Crew - Getting Up (God Is In The TV) Buy Here
8. The Aphex Twin - Digeridoo (R&S) Classic 12″ from 1991. I can still remember the first time I heard this track and thinking this could be the future of electronic music. Still sounds fantastic even now.
9. I Was A Cub Scout - Pink Squares (Rough Trade) Taken from the album “I Want You To Know There Is Always Hope”. Out 18th February. Buy Here
10. Disconcerts - Ladies First (Self Released) The fourth and final track from this fine cd.
11. Eats Tapes - Full Blast (Tigerbeat 6) Second track from this weeks featured artist. Buy Here
12. Pale Man Made - Stay Pressed (My Space) Yes that’s right, I’ve nicked this track from the bands My Space page. I didn’t even know they existed until I discovered them on Rossy’s fine Just Gimme Indie Rock blog according to which they will soon be releasing an album called “Oh My, Treasured Things” which on the strength of this I can’t wait to hear. They come from Newcastle as well which is only about fifty miles north of my humble abode.
13. Rings - You Remind Me (Paw Tracks) Taken from the album “Black Habit”. Buy Here
14. Turzi - Afghanastan ()
15. Cadence Weapon - Real Estate (Anti)
Taken from the new album ”Afterparty Babies”. Out 4th March. Buy Here
16. New Times Viking - Another Day (Matador) This is quite simply an awesome record. New Times Viking come from Columbus, Ohio and that’s a shame because it means the chances of them playing anywhere near my neck of the woods is slim. Apparently they’re going to be touring with Super Furry Animals in February but according to their My Space page all of the dates are in the states. Oh well, let’s hope they come over to this side of the Atlantic before the year is out. The album is called “Rip It Off” and is also avaliable on vinyl. Buy Here
17. Flying Saucer Attack - Standing Stone (Domino) Classic droners from Bristol. This track comes from the 1994 album “Distance” which was a compilation of the bands early singles. I’m sure I had this track on 7″ it seems to have been lost in the mists of time. Buy Here
18. Eats Tapes - Hotel California (Tigerbeat 6) Final track from this weeks featured artist. Taken from the album “Dos Mutantes”. Buy Here
19. Eight Legs - Freaking Out The Neighbours (Weekender) Taken from the album “Searching For The Simple Life”.
20. Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs - Skabetty (Avocado) …and the prize for band name of the week goes to…This is one of six tracks on the bands debut mini album.

Some of the more eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that with the exception of this week and last weeks programs every file on the site has been removed. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it. The company which hosts my webspace decided to do an audit and as a result decided that the files for this site contravened the terms of service and promptly deleted them. I don’t keep back ups of the playlists so short of putting them all back together again from scratch they’ve gone. Not to worry though this weeks program is a bit of a blinder if I do say so myself. This weeks featured artist is Los Campesinos! who Im sure most people agree are probably destined for world domination in 2008.

1. Small Crew - Boxing Day (God Is In The TV) Released a couple of weeks ago (on Boxing Day oddly enough) this is the first offering from Small Crew. It’s avaliable as a dowload only single together with another track called “Getting Up” which is just as good. Buy Here
2. Disfear - Fiery Father (Relapse) Taken from the album “Live The Storm”. Out 28th January.
3. Soldatino - King
4. Los Campesinos! - Don’t Tell Me To Do The Math(s) (Wichita) First track from this weeks featured artist. Los Campesinos! Despite being the current music press darlings they have managed to produce an album which lives up to all expectations. “Hold On Now, Youngster” will be avaliable from 18th February. The band will be touring the country in February with Johnny Foreigner who I must confess I’m not familiar with. Check out their My Space page for more details. Buy Here.
5. Triola - In Lourdes (Kompact) Another track from the compilation “Pop Ambient 2008″. Buy Here
6. Blood On The Wall - Sorry Sorry Sarah (Social Registry) Taken from the new album “Liferz”. Out 22nd January. Buy Here.
7. The Wake - English Rain (Sarah) Taken from the 1990 album “Make It Loud”. I don’t know how easy it is to find this record these days but I think it might be time for a re-issue.
8. Tepr - En Direct De La Cote (Alavi Rerox Remix) (Wall Of Sound) 12″ vinyl. Buy Here
9. Okay - Only (Absolutely Kosher) This guy has the most extraordinary voice! Taken from the new album “Huggable Dust”.
10. Eats Tapes - No Part Name (Tigerbeat 6) This has been around for almost a year and I’ve only just got myself a copy!! This is the first track from the “Dos Mutantes” album and is by no means the best track on there. More to come me thinks. Buy Here
11. Bob Mould - Who Needs To Dream (Beggars Banquet) The former Husker Du and Sugar front man returns with a new album “District Line”. Out 11th February. Buy Here
12. Los Campesinos! - Sweet Dreams, Sweet Cheeks (Wichita) Second track from this weeks featured artist. From the forthcoming album “Hold On Now, Youngster”. Buy Here
13. Disconcerts - William S Burroughs (Self Released) What can you say? Pure brilliance.
14. Correcto - Do It Better (Domino) It seems to have taken the band ages to get this debut album done. It has been well worth the wait though and you’ll be able grab yourself one when it hit’s the shops on 25th February. Buy Here
15. Destroyer - My Favorite Year (Merge) Taken from the new album “Trouble In Dreams” which is apparently the eighth Destroyer album. Out 18th March. I’ll probably play more tracks from it closer to the release date.
16. Ecstatic Sunshine - Herrons (?) I’ve not got much information about this cd at all. It appears to be called “Way”, contains three tracks of which this is the shortest. It’s certainly very different to their “Freckle Wars” album from a couple of years ago.
17. Voicst - High As An Amsterdam Tourist (Play It Again Sam)Taken from the new album “A Tale Of Two Devils”.
18. Butthole Surfers - The Hurdy Gurdy Man (Rough Trade) I wasn’t entierly sure about including this track in the program but Vince managed to persuade me after a couple of beers. To be fair I can be quite plyable about most things after a couple of beers in fact there’s not much I won’t do for a couple of pints and……..Probably best to stop about now.
19. Los Campesinos! - Death To Los Campesinos! (Wichita) Final track from this weeks featured artist. The album “Hold On Now, Youngster” will be out 18th February. Buy Here
20. Birds Of Prey - Turning Big Rocks Into Little Rocks (Relapse) Another winner from the Relapse stable. This track comes from the new Birds Of Prey album “Sulfur & Semen”. Out 28th January. Buy Here

This weeks program features The Magnetic Fields in the much coveted featured artist slot. The three tracks come from "Distortions" their new album which will be flying out of stores up and down the country as we speak. The record has had mixed reviews with people either loving or hating it, without much middle ground. Personally I think it's the best material the band have produced thus far and I hope it does very well for them. Also in this weeks program new stuff from Blood Red Shoes whose long awaited debut album will finally materialise in the spring, another track from the best ep I've heard for ages. I'm talking of course about Disconcerts who I really hope are not just going to be one of those bands who make one excellent record and then walk off the edge of a cliff never to be heard from again. Anyway I can't sit around here chatting all day..................

1. Disconcerts - David Bowie (Self-Released) My new favorite band.
2. Oh No Ono - Keeping Warm In A Cold Country (Morningside) Taken from the album “Yes”. Out next week. Buy Here
3. Facebreaker - Slowly Rotting (Pulverised ) Taken from the new album “Dead, Rotten & Hungry”. Out 31st January. Buy Here
4. The Magnetic Fields - California Girls (Nonesuch) This weeks feaured artist are The Magnetic Fields who are about to release what is by far their finest work to date. The album is called “Distortion” and will be available from Monday. Two more tracks before the end of the program. Buy Here

7. The Orb - Towers Of Dub (Perpetual Twilight Of Dawn)
8. Kap Bambino - Mess In The Ruins (Wwilko)
I played you a track from this album last year then promptly forgot all about it until Vince mentioned it in the pub last week. The album’s called “Zero Life, Night Vision” and is bloody brill. Buy Here
9. Envelopes - Put On Hold (Brille) Taken from the new album “Here Comes The Wind” which will be released 28th January.
10. All - Sag Alles Ab (Kompact) Another track from the “Pop Ambient 2008″ compilation. I must admit I’m not a big fan of compilations (even though I produce one every week) but this one is especially good. Buy Here
11. The Magnetic Fields - Please Stop Dancing (Nonesuch) Second track from this weeks featured artist. Buy Here
12. Torpedo - Rabbit In The Headlight (Knievel) From the album “In The Assembly Line”. Buy Here
13. Foals - Redsox Pugie (Transgressive) This is the second track from a two track promo cd, the first of which I played in last weeks program. I can’t wait for the album from these guys which apparently is not too far away. Oxford at it’s finest.
14. DHS - House Of God (Hangman) Classic with a capital CLASS. Time for a re-issue me thinks.
15. Tender Forever - Doves Vs Pigeons (K) From the album “Wider”. Buy Here
16. Black Mountain - Stay Free (Jagjaguwar) The album “In The Future” will be released on 21st January. Buy Here
17. Bongwater - Nick Cave Dolls (Shimmy Disc) I used to love this album. Not just for it’s musical content but also because it used to wind my dad up like nothing else. “Get that bloody pornography off” he used to shout upstairs. The album in question is the cult classic “Power Of Pussy” and every home should have one.
18. The Magnetic Fields - Drive On Driver (Nonesuch) Final track from this weeks featured artist. The album “Distortion” will be out next week. Buy Here
19. Intervurt - Translucent (Dead Planet) This is the title track from the London bands forthcoming ep. Out 28th January.
20. The Fall - Why Are People Grudgeful (Permanent) The new album should be with us in March. It’s called “Latch Key Kid” and I for one won’t sleep until it is in my possession. This track is from 1993 and can be found on the 2006 re-issue of “The Infortainment Scan”. Buy Here

1. Young & Restless - I Pointed At You And You Burst Into Flames (Dot Dash) Taken from the self-titled debut album. Not sure how you would get a copy but goddam you need one!
2. Los Campesinos - Broken Heartbeats Sound Like Breakbeats (Wichita) Taken from the long awaited (by me anyway) debut album “Hold On Now Youngster” which will be in the shops on 18th February.
3. Foals - Cassius (Transgressive) I’ve no idea exactly what this is. It’s the first track from a two track promo CD. New single perhaps? Anyway the Oxford lads seem to have hit the target with their usual accuracy and I’ll play the other track from this CD in next weeks program.
4. This Will Destroy You - Threads (Magic Bullet) Taken from their self-titled debut album which will be released on 28th January. Buy Here
5. Plasticines - Pop In, Pop Out (EMI) First track from this weeks featured artist. This album has been around a while apparently but I only got my paws on one the other week and it turns out to be rather excellent even though it has quite possibly the worst sleeve I’ve seen for some time. Buy Here
6. Chris T-T - This Gun Is Not A Gun (Xtra Mile) I seem to recall promising to play this a while back. Taken from the current e.p. of the same name. Buy Here
7. The Mountain Goats - Sax Rohmer #1 (4AD) This is the first track on the new Mountain Goats album. I’ve only listened to the whole thing a couple of times but it’s a bit of a stormer. The album is called “Heretic Pride” and will be released on 18th February. Buy Here
8. The Shop Assistants - Big E Power (Avalanche)
9. Black Mountain - Angels (Jagjaguwar)
Taken from the new album “In The Future” which will be released on 21st January. Buy Here
10. The Reverse - My Lifelong Psychological Experiment (Run Out) These guys just don’t make enough records. They seem to have been around for ages and yet this is only their third e.p. Apparently this is the final e.p. in the trilogy. I certainly hope this doesn’t mean they won’t be making any more records. Would it be too much to ask for an album in 2008? This CD is limited to 500 copies so you’d better get your skates on. Buy Here
11. Dillinja - Tunnel Grinder (Valve) Taken from the “Diggin In Ya Crate” 12″ep. Kicks ass. Buy Here
12. The Magnetic Fields - Too Drunk To Dream (Nonesuch) One of the first classic tunes of 2008. Taken from the new album “Distortion”. I expect to hear this sang at football grounds up and down the country. Out 14th January. Buy Here
