The Fall - 30th Aniversary

There can be very few bands who can claim to have been active for no less than thirty years and still sound as fresh as the day they were born. In fact the only one I can think of is The Fall. Perhaps it's got something to do with the fact that Mark E. Smith seems to sack band members as one of his favorite pastimes, or perhaps it's more to do with the fact that Smith is a complete one off. Over the last three decades he has stubbornly refused to follow trends or sell out to the powers that be. Over the last couple of years he has even gone as far as walking off stage half way through just because he felt like it and on the last tour cancelling gigs at very late notice. As annoying as Mark E. Smith can be you just have to admire his unshakeable attitude and self belief.
This is a recording of the recent 30th anniversary gig which took place at the New Century Hall in Manchester on 10th June. It's apparently the 30th anniversary of the original line up, Mark E. Smith, Una Baines, Martin Bramah and Tony Friel going to see The Sex Pistols in June 1976.
Although this is an audience recording the sound quality is pretty good.

Burning World #10

3Hostwomexicansandatinofspanners win the award for band name of the week. They've just released their debut album "Pegasus Bridge" through Noisestar records and it is spectacular. The one thing which comes through about this bunch of lads is that really don't give a shit about anything other than having a laugh and making some quite angry noises. At times they remind me of the Happy Flowers who releasedsome pretty good stuff on Homestead Records some years ago. Check out the MP3's on their website HERE.

Another release to look out for this week is the new album by Capleton. If you like dancehall reggae then this should be one of your albums of the year. Capleton seems to have been releasing records forever and this is top quality stuff. Check out the track in this weeks program.

Good Shoes will release a new single on 10th July. It's called "All In My Head" and features two brand new tracks on the b side. Check it out in the program below. The Sheffield quartet have a couple of gigs coming up and I would highly recommend that you make an effort to see them before they explode.

7th July - Dorset, Stanway House
22nd July - Oxford, Truck Festival

Burning World #9

I think it's fair to say that this is probably the best Burning World program thus far. The fact of the matter is that there is so much good music around at the moment you and you don't have to look very hard to find it. I just wish more people could be bothered because only then will we rid the world of the dirge which makes up ninety percent of the commercial charts. Anyway of particular note this week is the new album by a band from the south west of England wo celebrate under the moniker The Archie Bronson Outfit. Their new album is entitled Derdang Derdang and has just been released by Domino Records. Check out the track in this weeks program because the rest of the album is just as good.

If any bands of labels out there would like to their stuff played on Burning World our postal address is:-

Burning World #8

At last summer seems to have arrived. The sun is shining and the sky is blue and the postman is walking down the street with hopefully one or two records in his bag for me....Oh well maybe tomorrow. Looks like rain now.
It's only June but already this has been one of the best years for music I can remember. There have been so many exiting new bands all trying to do something a bit different an long may it continue. Bishop Allen are one such band. They come from Brooklyn, New York and have had the challenging idea of releasing an EP every month. Personally I like the February EP best but evry one is a winner and I'm just a sucker for things like that and have to go and collect all of them or risk feeling incomplete for the rest of my life. The EP's only cost $5 so pop over to their website and have a gander.
Other stuff to try and find this week include the new single by 1990's. Produced by Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub and including at least one former member of The Yummy Fur it's one of those singles which remains on your I-Pod for all time. A great slice of angular pop crafted as only the Scots know how and it's such a shame that their not in the World Cup...Oops.

Help She Can't Swim - Midnight Garden (Fantastic Plastic)
Sambassadeur - Think Nothing Of It (Labrador)
Duels - Potential Futures (Nude)
The Longcut - Vitamin C (Deltasonic)
Paris Angels - All On You (Perfume) (Sheer Joy)
The Blizzards - Why Do You Fancy Scumbags (Universal)
Bishop Allen - Central Booking (Champagne School)
Camera Obscura - If Looks Could Kill (Elefant)
Booka Shade - Blue Room
Parks & Recreation - Perfect Love (Hush)
1990's - You Made Me Like It (Rough Trade)
Larrikin Love - Downing Street Kindling (Warp)
Wire - Three Girl Rhumba (Harvest)
Plaid - I Citizen The Loathsome (Warp)
