I've just got a copy of the debut album by Be Your Own Pet. This is the first record I've heard by the band and it's a real treat. Fifteen tracks packed with the kind of attitude I just don't hear enough of. From the opening track "Threshers Flail" your almost forced to pay attention. This is clearly a band who are not having their strings pulled by some smarmy label bosses. The first couple of times I heard the record it put me in mind of the first Babes In Toyland album "Spanking Machine" which in itself was a pretty special record. I think the band played in the UK recently and I'm kicking myself for not getting to see them. Oh well, maybe next time.
I'll be interested to see how many lists this record ends up in come December. As we stand, it's top of mine.
The debut album from Be Your Own Pet will be released in the UK through XL Recordings on 27th March and is an essential purchase.
