Well I've just got back after a weekend of over indulgence and my head hurts so I'm just going to go and lay on the sofa for a bit.....Oh before I go you might want to have a quick listen to Candy.
Can't tell you anything at all about them apart from the singer used to be in The Paradise Motel and the guitarist used to be in Cindytalk. Right thats it, I'm off to annoy the cat.
They have more mp3's on their website.

The Would Be's

As a follow up to The Would Be's session posted on The Perfumed Garden last week I thought I would post their debut EP released on Decoy Records in 1990. They released two EP's of which this was the first. The second EP was entitled "Silly Songs For Cynical People" and was released the following year.
I've heard the band re-formed a couple of years ago, but I can't find any information. If anybody has any more information about that please let me know.

The Would Be's - First EP

Hope this sorts you out Mark.

1. I'm Hardly Ever Wrong
2. Great Expectations
3. I Want To Say What Goes Without Saying
4. There Is There Are That's All

Electralane released their follow up to last years "The Power Out" LP through Too Pure on 9th May, and features new bassist Ross Murray.

The bands recent session for One Music was also well worth a listen. I particularly liked "Those Pockets Are People".

One Music Session - 24th May 2005.

1. Bells
2. Two For Joy
3. Gone Darker
4. Those Pockets Are People/The Partisan

Dust Bowl Central

I went to Fibbers in York the other night to watch the fabulous Engineers who were ...well...fabulous. They were supported by Dust Bowl Central, a local band who I've not seen before, but on the strength of their performance I'll be making the effort to catch up with them again.
Their sound is quite original. Synths, Guitar, Bass and Drum Machine and good songs all combine to produce a sound which holds your attention.
All in all I would rather see them enjoy some success than some of the poor excuses for bands we currently see on the national circuit.

They have some mp3's availiable on their site

The Dares

The Dares are a bunch of New Yorkers who produce a very English jingly jangly indie sound.
They remind me of so many classic indie bands from the past I just can't be bothered to list them all. So they should be one of those "Ok, but we've heard it all before" bands.....but no, The Dares incorporate all that indie stuff but with style. The boy/girl vocals, the jangly guitar, the twee keyboards. They make it all their own.
They have an album due out on Skipping Stones Records sometime soon.

God Is An Astronaut

God Is An Astronaut are a three piece from Dublin. Formed in 2002 they released their debut album "The End Of The Beginning" in 2003.
They sound falls somewhere between Mogwai and Engineers (who I'll be watching at Fibbers in York tomorrow night).
The band have recently released their second album "All Is Violent, All Is Bright" and a single "Fragile" which apparantly has had play on MTV 2 (not that that means anything).
There only seems to be one gig in the pipeline, at The Water Rats Theatre in London on August 9th.

I'm not sure what you'll make of this band from Liverpool. They about as dis-jointed as it's possible to do, but it all just somehow works.
From electronic bleeps and tones to full on guitar distortion and even some vocals thown into the mixer now and again.
Great, just how we like it.
